Cans Across America touched ground in Union Square, Somerville last Sunday, like a tornado of tastiness.
We spent the day canning, fermenting, then some more canning, then some pressure canning, then…you get the picture!
The fabulous event was masterminded by Linsey Herman. For the story, check her blog.

Alex, thanks so much for your demo on Sunday - it was fascinating and very entertaining! I went to the Dewey Square market yesterday and bought a cabbage so big and heavy I would be uncomfortable using it as a bowling ball, and now there are many jars of sauerkraut aging on my counter. My dad will be thrilled when I bring him some this weekend :)
Adrienne, awesome! 5-pounder? Don't forget to squish down your jars!
I weighed it when I got home - it was a mere ounce less than six pounds. SO CLOSE! And I squished the crap out of my jars, they're doing great!
I wonder the weight of the heaviest documented cabbage...
